Light iron is a volume problem, not a weight one
Thin-gauge material is mostly air. A stripped-out HVAC run or a roof full of siding fills a container long before it comes anywhere near what the truck can carry, which flips the sizing logic from the heavy-steel pages entirely.
When that is what the job produces, the right move is a bigger box rather than more trips. Fewer swaps means less disruption on site and less handling of material whose value does not change for having been moved twice.
Taller walls, same footprint
A 30 yard is roughly about 22 ft long, 8 ft wide, 6 ft high, the same ground area as a 20 yard, with the capacity added in height. If space on site is tight, that is the useful thing to know: stepping up from a 20 does not cost you any more of the yard.
The higher sides do mean loading goes through the end door rather than over the rail, so leave clear access at that end for a cart, a barrow, or a machine.

Frequently asked questions
Height, mostly. They take up about the same ground area; the 30 has taller walls. If the site is tight but the material is bulky, the 30 gives you more capacity without more footprint.
A little mixed in is fine, but a container this size loaded with dense steel would be over legal road weight well before it is full. If heavy material is the bulk of the job, ask us about a 10 or 20 yard instead.
Appliances that held Freon go in only once the refrigerant has been professionally removed and the unit is tagged. Everything else can go in as it is.
